Current progress on our project.

So I have made a lot of progress with the art piece. I have decided on a theme of underwater. The base piece is a relatively large box which I’m most likely going to have as the beggining part of it. I will lay a background onto it and put the pieces together. I am using blown out Christmas light wires as seaweed and the lights themselves as a jelly fish. I have made several sharks out of a tastycake box  and plan to make a huge group of fish out of some other materials I’m not sure what yet. We are also in the process of creating a website for our project and to promote our message. Hashim has been doing well with the creation of the site and we think it will be done today. I have thought about doing more than just one piece, my new goal would be 3-5 different projects. Of course this will take a lot of time but I’m confident it can be done by the end of the year. The sharks alone took me over an hour to make and they’re only a small part of a large piece. But I want to make sure everything is made with as much quality and detail as I can put into it. But the time I’m going to need to put in is very unappealing. If it takes an hour to make 2 sharks then how long will it take to finish the whole entire project. Then if I’m doing 3 of these how long will that be combined. My guess is all of them will take a total of 30 hours. Which with the given time in class that I have i will only need to work on it outside of school a couple times during the year.

These are the sharks that I have made.

More About the plan

As we get closer to the pitch date I am planning to do a presentation on why this is important to me. A movie I watched in health class motivated me to bring awareness to this topic. Some of the challenges we faced going into this week aren’t resolve able until later in the project. Firstly, I need to start with collecting and cleaning some of the materials I want to use. I also need to create a plan or blueprint so I know what things I need and where to place them. We also must find a website maker so we can create a recycle website that brings more awareness to what people do with their plastics. We will most likely use the website to write about articles we read online. These articles will be credited and we will give our opinions on how to fix the problem. Next week, we are doing a pitch to several people to get their opinions on our project and to see if we can even get approved for it. I have planned out a detailed presentation and have faith that we will do well. This will probably be one of the most difficult parts of our project as neither me nor my partner are great public speakers. But I think we will be fine.

Proposed idea

Our proposed idea is that we create art and a website to promote recycling. My idea was to create a model city with all recycled plastics, cans, and anything else I can get. The idea came from a video I watched in health class showing just how damaging plastic is to the ecosystem. One interesting thing they said was that all plastic ever made is still on the earth in some type of form. This really sparked my interest in this project as I had no idea as to how much plastic was really in our world. It always seemed that other problems around the world were much more important than something as small as a coke bottle. But I have learned that the long term affects will soon destroy our ecosystem and really will destroy the whole world. Hopefully we will be able to research this project and create something that people around the world will see. This image is powerful. It shows how even the most beautiful places on earth can be ruined because of the worlds laziness. I hope it helps you to understand the extent of this problem.
